Composition Workshop Final Concert

The composition masterclass organized by Avanti! in collaboration with Suvisoitto began when a group of young composers decided to gather at Sannäs Manor. As early as 1986, they were fascinated by computers, which offered new perspectives and possibilities for composition. Over the years, the course – led by Jukka Tiensuu and Tomi Räisänen – has featured distinguished teachers including Magnus Lindberg, Jouni Kaipainen, Kaija Saariaho, and Esa-Pekka Salonen.

To date, the final concerts of the Suvisoitto Composition Workshop have featured well over one hundred world premieres. The concept traditionally includes an extra element of excitement: a challenge that gives composers the opportunity to experiment with something they might never wish to try again.
