The selected works by <strong>Lotta Wenn\u00e4koski<\/strong> on the Zeng album were performed in February 2020 at a concert celebrating the composer&#8217;s 50th birthday, organised by Avantti. In addition to the works <em>I st\u00e4llet f\u00f6r vingar<\/em> (2014-16), <em>Hele<\/em> (2018), <em>Kuule II<\/em> (2007) and <em>Zeng<\/em> (2018-19), the piano trio <em>P\u00e4\u00e4rme<\/em> (2014-15) was recorded for the album. The collection provides a rich overview of Lotta Wenn\u00e4koski&#8217;s chamber music output &#8211; the Hungarian pediments of Zeng meet the emotional organ scores of Kuule II.   <\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The soloist line-up on the album is impressive. Zeng features <strong>Lucie Horsch<\/strong> on lead guitar and <strong>Ville Syrj\u00e4l\u00e4inen<\/strong> on percussion. <strong>Heikki Nikula<\/strong> plays the bass clarinet part II and the clarinet parts I st\u00e4llet f\u00f6r vingar. <strong>Virpi R\u00e4is\u00e4nen<\/strong> performs the vocal part of I st\u00e4llet f\u00f6r vingar, <strong>Antti Ohjenoja<\/strong> on percussion and <strong>Timo Ahtis<\/strong> on double bass. Pianist <strong>Emil Holmstr\u00f6m<\/strong>, violinist <strong>Eriikka Maalismaa<\/strong> and cellist <strong>Mikko Ivars<\/strong> make up the piano trio. The chamber orchestra works have been recorded under the baton of conductor <strong>J\u00f3zsef H\u00e1rs<\/strong>. The album features musicians who have played in Avant for decades as well as first-time professional musicians.      <\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The album was produced by <strong>Laura Heikinheimo<\/strong>. She has worked as a recording producer for the Radio Symphony Orchestra since 2009 and her recordings have won awards from Grammys to Gramophones. The album was recorded by <strong>Enno M\u00e4emets<\/strong>, an expert in the field, at J\u00e4rvenp\u00e4\u00e4-Talo and released by <strong>Alba Records<\/strong>.   <\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Zeng album will be released on Saturday 2.12. in connection with the Avanti! quartet concert at Suvilahti Tiivist\u00e4m\u00f6. Four works composed for string quartet will be performed in this upbeat and atmospheric evening: the Finnish premiere of <em>Pige<\/em> by Lotta Wenn\u00e4koski and <em>Flickereth<\/em>, premiered in July, John Zorn&#8217;s <em>Cat O\u00b4nine Tails<\/em> and Michael Daugherty&#8217;s <em>Sing Sing: J. Edgar Hoover<\/em> for quartet and tape. The evening will start at 18:00 with a discussion with composer Lotta Wenn\u00e4koski and writer <strong>Riina Katajavuori<\/strong>. The discussion on intertextuality and musicality is available for the price of a concert ticket.
