Avanti!’s Paleface & Harps concert explores these very questions. In the first half of the concert, four harps create a magical, almost cinematic soundscape, both individually and together, led by harpist Päivi Severeide. Music has been written for this rare ensemble by, among others, Indie Award winner Laura Hynninen, known for her rhythmic and colourful harp works. The programme also features several works for harp and electronics, including Kaija Saariaho’s Fall, which brings a historical perspective to the programme.
In the second half, rapper Paleface takes over the stage. His music has been arranged for harps, double bass and a small drum kit. The two worlds meet in a skilful and unexpected way, while Paleface also shares facts and stories from the history of rap.
