Avanti is participating in the Taidetestaajat programme with its Paleface & Harps concert, which has already been performed successfully in previous editions. There will be a total of six performances for schoolchildren, held at Taidetehdas in Porvoo and Rytmikorjaamo in Seinäjoki.
What can a harp do as a solo instrument, or as part of a quartet? And what happens when it accompanies Paleface’s rap? Avanti’s Paleface & Harps concert explores these questions. In the first half of the concert, four harps, led by Päivi Severeide, create a magical, even cinematic soundscape, both individually and together. Several works have been composed for this rare combination, including music by award-winning composer and harpist Laura Hynninen, known for her rhythmic and colourful harp works. The programme also features several works for harp and electronics, including Kaija Saariaho’s Fall, which brings a historical perspective to the programme.
In the second half, rapper Paleface takes over the stage. His music has been arranged for harps, double bass and a small drum kit. The two worlds meet in a skilful and unexpected way, while Paleface also shares facts and stories from the history of rap.
