Porvoo Jazz Festival x Avanti!: Anni Elif & Seppo Kantonen

Sound artist Anni Elif captivates listeners with her expressive and multifaceted voice, while pianist and composer Seppo Kantonen is one of Finland’s leading improvisers. Refined through years of collaboration, their unique musical dialogue has enchanted audiences in Finland, Germany and Italy.

At this festival, the duo performs with an exceptional ensemble, joined by four of Finland’s most sought-after wind players. The concert programme consists mainly of compositions by Anni Elif, Seppo Kantonen and Anders Jormin, in which music and poetry merge into an evocative whole.

The concert offers an immersive journey into the worlds of chamber music, improvisation and contemporary classical music. Echoes of the Renaissance, delicate timbres and creativity born in the moment create a fascinating soundscape that touches, surprises and invites the listener to delve deeper.

Texts by Pentti Saarikoski, Pär Lagerkvist, A.W. Yrjänä, Edith Södergran, Olli-Matti Ronimus, Aleksi Barrière and Tomas Tranströmer bring further depth and meaning to the whole.
