SUVISOITTO 2026
This is deeply unquiet music that often leaves one quiet. The mysteries are legion but not exactly deep or dark.
Composer Eric Wubbels was awarded the prestigious Ernst von Siemens Composers’ Prize a couple of years ago. At the time, his music was described as follows by critic and University of Chicago professor Seth Brodsky.
The programme of Avantin Suvisoitto Festival 2026 is curated by the orchestra’s artistic director, pianist Joonas Ahonen. He has invited Eric Wubbels as the festival’s featured composer, and Wubbels will travel to Porvoo both as a composer and as a pianist. The festival will present his new music alongside a wide selection of earlier works.
The festival’s opening concert will take place at Taidehalli (Taidetehdas), Porvoo, on Thursday 25 June 2026 at 7 pm, conducted by Emilia Hoving, with Joonas Ahonen at the piano. In addition to Wubbels’s music, the programme includes works by Márton Illés, Sarah Nemtsov, and Arnold Schoenberg.
The full festival programme will be announced in autumn 2025, and tickets for the opening concert are already on sale.
